The Story
KABUKI GAZE
In kabuki, there is a moment called mie.
The actor stops moving and holds the entire emotion in one pose.
The eyes sharpen.
The face becomes still.
Everything gathers just before movement begins.
Kumadori makeup makes that expression even stronger.
Lines of color exaggerate the face,
turning emotion into something you can see from across the room.
KABUKI GAZE takes that instant
and turns it into a graphic.
Not the action itself.
The pressure right before it.
Before the body moves,
the eyes arrive first.
Yoriai
This piece wasn't designed by KIONÉ alone.
The main design was chosen together through the Yoriai.
Ideas for the details, placement, and final balance
were then shared by the group.
KIONÉ gathered those ideas,
chose what fit the piece,
and completed the final design.
A yoriai was a village gathering in old Japan,
where people came together to discuss and decide.
