Yōkai have lived in Japanese folklore

Spirits, monsters, and mysterious beings
passed down through generations.
At the center of this design is the Nue,
a legendary creature from The Tale of the Heike,
known for its strange, composite form.
Here, the Nue and other yōkai come together
inside the Japanese character
妖 — YŌ.
Once feared in stories.
